Max our lovely gentle boy born the end of April 1999
Max came to us very unexpectedly early January 2000 he had been living with a friend of my husbands who had breed him (not deliberately i must add) and had kept 2 out of a litter of six, max and his brother teddy. their mum was the softest rottweiler ever and their father a big chunky staff both owned by the breeder unfortunately they had gotten together when the bitch was in season and no body had known till it was to late and the puppies were almost due.
Max came to us when he was 8 and a half months as his brother had started attacking him so had to be split up for his own safety. When he came he was very much still a pup all wrinkles and slobber and so very well behaved. He had some problems with his eyes all the time and when examined by the vet and was diagnosed with ingrowing eye lashes so an operation was done when he was a year old and all was well. until a year later and the problem reacquired so we changed our vets as we weren't happy with them at the time and was told that the operation had been done much to early in his age and he would have to have it done again so max had his second operation on his eyes when he was two poor boy.
Max is very much a gentlemen now, but wasn't always he caused us so much stress in the first few years of having him. max was an escape artist he would do anything to get out, which included biting of window handles and jumping from the landing window, scaling 6 foot walls as if he was spider man their was nothing we could do to keep him in he was a night mare. He got run over twice and stolen well we think he was anyway he had got out one day through a window and was missing for 4 days we searched every where had contacted police and dog wardens etc but no one had found him, then in the evening of the 4th night we heard crying by the front door and their he was he was in a right state. we bathed his wounds and took him to the vets first thing in the morning . the vet thought that he had been taken for fighting as he had rope burns around his back legs as if he had been tied and used as a bait dog. He had really deep bite marks all over his face and neck. well enough was enough we couldn't go on like this anymore and we asked the vet to castrate him hoping it would stop the urge to escape. It stopped him for a few months but were not really sure if it was the castrating or just the fact the whole experience had scared him stupid. But it wasn't long before max was back to his old tricks but instead of getting out and wondering the streets he would just sit in our front garden. and he still does it to this day. Everyone No's our max around where we live and no one has a bad word to say about him he is so soft and gentle and loved by all. I just wish we could keep him in. But like the vet said he's a wanderer and he ain't going to change.
